Wednesday Night at the Movies: "The Amateur" starring Rami Malek In-Person

Tonight there will be a free screening of the film: "The Amateur."  Charlie Heller (Rami Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack.  When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.

This film, directed by James Hawes, spins the classic tale of a vigilante quest into a riveting spy action thriller, resonating with modern cinematic flair.  This adaptation of Robert Littell's novel sees Rami Malek as Charlie Heller, a CIA cryptographer, transformed into a determined avenger after a tragic personal loss.  His journey from a desk-bound analyst to a relentless pursuer across continents is both compelling and chilling.  Malek's performance is particularly noteworthy; he brings a nuanced depth to Charlie, capturing the transformation of grief into grim resolve with finesse .  Caitriona Balfe, despite limited screen time, leaves a strong impression, adding layers to the narrative's emotional complexity. Other actors are Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan and Jon Bernthal.

The film is not appropriate for children as it is rated PG-13 due to strong violence and language, according to film websites.  While the violence is not overly graphic, it is present throughout and can be intense.  The running time is 122 minutes, and there is no signup required to attend.
